Hi, my name is Catherine Stephens
I am the founder of Equitably Pty Ltd. I am a specialist employment lawyer with nearly two decades advising employers across all industries, from start-ups to established businesses. I am passionate about employment law and supporting my clients to provide exceptional workplaces, protecting their brands and reducing liability exposure. I am driven to ensure that all employers have access to high quality advice that doesn't break the bank.
My qualifications
I was admitted to practice on 19 February 2008 in the Supreme Court of Victoria as an Australian Legal Practitioner.
Before opening Equitably in 2024, I worked as an employment lawyer and Associate Director, BlueRock Law
Between 2018 and 2021, I worked as a Senior Associate (employment law) at Gilchrist Connell.
Between 2016 and 2018, I ran my own successful practice after my son was diagnosed with severe Autism and was unable to attend childcare.
Between 2008 and 2016, I worked for A.J Macken & Co, a specialist employment law firm.
Between 2007 and 2008, I completed my articles of clerkship with A.J Macken & Co.
In 2006 I graduated from Deakin University with a Bachelor of Laws.
In 2002, I graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Arts.
What makes me different to your average lawyer or HR Advisor?
I pride myself on getting to know my clients' businesses but also my clients' values to ensure that the advice I provide meets all my clients' needs. I also make myself available to my clients outside business hours when it is often more convenient for them. I also understand that many clients operate 24/7 businesses, so I am always available to respond to inquiries over the weekends. Finally, I tailor my costs to meet each client's particular budget.
